Annie Duke was born in Concord ,New Hampshire and grew up playing cards with her family. Annie Duke did not like to lose a card game as she was a very competitive child. Annie Duke attended Columbia University majoring in English and Psychology with the hopes of being a professor some day. While attending school Annie Duke hung around with her brother Howard Lederer and watched him play poker but never truly got into the game of poker.
Howard Lederer invited his sister once again to one of his no limit texas hold'em tournaments, but this time he took time out and showed annie the basic rules of poker for texas hold'em. This trip had intrigued Annie, so in 1992 she moved to Montana with her husband and player poker in Billings, Montana. Howard Lederer had sent some money to Annie and told her to enter into and play in the World Series of Poker. She had astonished many with her knowledge for poker as she placed 13th in the 1st tournament and 3rd in the second. She even won against her brother Howard Lederer at the 10k championship and brought in 70k that first year of playing poker, so Annie Duke and her husband moved to Las Vegas to pursue her poker career further.
Annie Duke is the only woman poker player to win two major tournaments in a one year period and she just keeps amazing people with her talents for poker.
